Techniques

Traditional and recent Qi Gong techniques can be divided into four groups: Medical, Health & Well Being, Martial arts, Internal energy techniques.
Medical – techniques suited for people sick and suffering; can help cure illnesses and reduce their pathologies. Can balance energies in excess or in deficiency and enables energy to circulate in the meridians so strengthening organs and their functions.
Health & Well Being - techniques to strengthen and improve general health, prevent disease and increase the body’s natural defenses. Helps to balance and circulate energy in the meridians, paying special attention to certain acupuncture points, fortifies organs and their functions and develops suppleness and tone in muscles and tendons. Relieves stress and soothes the mind.

These first two groups (formerly known as daoyinfa or yangshengfa) are classified as soft Qi Gong or Qi Gong for Health and Well Being. The exercises are dynamic combining slow, smooth movements with breathing techniques, very pleasant to do. By doing these simple almost gymnastic exercises, energy circulates in the meridians, muscles, ligaments and joints, tendons become relaxed, stretched and toned.
Martial Arts - techniques to improve performance in martial arts. Can help to withstand violent knocks, develops internal strength when carrying out martial art exercises and increases courage in the face of danger.
Internal Energy - techniques to develop Breathing (Qi), The Essence (Jing), The Mind (Shen), in order to fortify the quality of the energy and its use/circulation.

These third and fourth groups are classified as hard Qi Gong. These techniques consist of rather static movements of the nei gong sort where there is little or no movement. They combine respiration techniques, visualisation, concentration and regulation of breathing, (Qi) with the intent of accumulating, activating, moving and transmitting energy.

The Qi Gong techniques taught at Studio Air Paris are for Health and Well Being.
